- Internet BoloTracker v1.0 - DONT README
-
- This Bolo Tracker is a simple hack to look for Bolo games across the Internet.
- When you can't find anyone locally, it's time to look for another game somewhere
- out there. Better than the previous (AppleTalk) Tracker, I have added a little
- more user interface to it (see feature list).
-
- Features:
- The list is grouped by game. Network visible players are listed under their
- games, and are displayed in collapsible outline format. The list can be
- sorted by map name or by start time.
-
- Start time indicates whether a game is on a time delay or in progress.
-
- You can now see how many people are playing in a game, and how many
- unclaimed bases and pillboxes there are before joining. There is also
- a space indicating that this is a password protected, or locked, game.
-
- Selecting a the name of a player, or that IP number, selects the information.
- Now you can copy and paste the info directly into the Bolo Window.
-
- Editable subnet lists make it easy to add a new bolo site to scan. If
- you don't know what your subnet is, look in the prefs dialog for the
- <Local Subnet>, and that should be set to your subnet address. Send
- it to me to put it on the master list, or just post it to your friends.
-
- Subnets can be added with drag and drop of Tracker Prefs files or a specially
- formatted text file. Another way to load a file is to open the Subnet Prefs
- dialog, and option-click the Add button to get a Standard File dialog.
-
-
- Notes:
- Internet BoloTracker is made available due to special hooks in Bolo 0.99
- and later. These hooks may change with time, and the Tracker will need to
- be updated.
-
- The biggest drawback about this implementation of Bolo is that you only
- hear back from the machines and nets you know about. If a games tells you
- that there are 5 people playing, but the list has only 3, then the other
- machines are not being scanned by your Subnet Prefs... perhaps you could
- ask those players to post subnet information?
-
- So far, I don't think Stuart has implemented a consistent way to determine
- the Start time of a game. Rather than playing time wizard, I use the first
- time Tracker displays the game as its "Start Time". Of course, at first
- launch, there is no way to do that, so games active at launch show question
- marks as the start time.
-
- The only pre-Mac II bug testing I did was to open Tracker on an SE.
- I would appreciate any feedback you have on these machines.
-
-
- Suggestions (for you Trackers):
- This monitor generates plenty of network traffic in its own right. Please try
- to share your Tracker with others in the lab to reduce net traffic.
-
- Bolo Servers provide a great way to find people to play against. You can
- join your favorite server and broadcast a quick challenge. However, don't
- overstay your welcome, and dont join repeatedly.
-
- Often with larger games, joining players cause considerable harm to the
- game. Please be considerate of those people in a game of more that 6
- players. Try logging into a Bolo Server somewhere, or run a map and wait
- for someone to Track you.
-
- International bolo gamers should join local games, or at least find a
- game with few players.
-
-
- Bolo Tracker is free to Bolo Addicts everywhere.
- Even more thanx go to Stuart Cheshire for his programming prowess.
